Brand & Market Local Resources

In a world where we are barraged with persuasive images and arguments, we feel it is vital to help our partners and stakeholders develop innovative, compelling brands and marketing tools that foster and promote healthy natural resources, conservation practices, natural resource management, historic and cultural resources, and locally owned businesses. Northeast Iowa RC&D, with input from dozens of local partners, has developed, funded, and distributed a wide range of professional publications and media, including kiosks, billboards, videos, brochures, posters, radio and television spots, and social media. Some of these publications and marketing tools help us encourage conservation, promote natural resources and conservation preservation efforts; others promote local businesses, our communities, or our region. Some are targeted to youth, some to producers, and others to visitors. All use professional photography and many involve local landowners and conservation organizations in development and distribution. Although we use social media and websites, we find that our residents and visitors still want to hold publications in their hands as they move through our region. They also appreciate the high-quality, accurate maps that we develop and publish.

Northeast Iowa RC&D is frequently asked to help our partner entities develop maps, secure photographs, and write narratives for their natural, cultural, and historic resource publications and media. As with any marketing effort, materials must constantly be updated to ensure they are of the highest quality. Our design skills, branding, and marketing expertise are also used to promote specific initiatives, land purchases, or land use options that improve soil and/or water quality. Our ongoing Grassfed Livestock Promotion is one such effort. Livestock producers that incorporate hay and pasture into their operations are less likely to have erosion from highly erodible hillsides. Promotion and celebration of grassfed operations and producers, as well as promotion of their products to the public, encourages other farmers to consider the economic and environmental benefits of grassfed systems, which can have a positive impact on water quality and soil health.
